The principal aim of this website is to pay tribute to the New Zealand artists and craftsmen who went to war in the Pacific in the Second World War, including my father, Harry Osborne Stone, as well as to provide an informative resource for other researchers and students in this area.
I am always interested in hearing from people who have relevant information to share about New Zealand Pacific War, art. Perhaps you have recognised somebody I have mentioned on the website and can add biographical information or further examples of his work, or suggest other artists that I have overlooked. Perhaps you have photographs taken during the war of some of the places and sites I have mentioned. I would welcome hearing from you.
Any feedback about the website itself is appreciated.
During the construction of this non-profit website I have been privileged to have had access to many private and public collections of Pacific War Art in Auckland and around the country, including Auckland War Memorial Museum, The New Zealand National Army Museum and the The Air Force Museum of New Zealand. I have photographed many two and three dimensional artworks and built up a substantial collection of my own images which have been used in the website.
I have also accessed the on-line collections of institutions such as Archives New Zealand, and various public museums and downloaded relevant images. Wherever possible I have sought permission to use these images but inevitably there will be some whose copyright owners I have been unable to contact.
I apologise if I have appropriated images that are not in the public domain without permission. Copyright owners may wish to contact me at clivestone@xtra.co.nz
The writing and images on this website, apart from those I have accessed from the public domain and those whose owners have kindly given me permission to use their material, remain the intellectual property of Clive Stone and may not be used without consultation and permission.
